A ranking drop can come from measurement changes, lost indexation, technical releases, stronger competitors, demand shifts or an algorithm update. Recovery starts with separating the affected pages, queries and dates.
Confirm what actually fell
Compare Search Console clicks, impressions, average position and page-level data. Check analytics configuration and seasonality before assuming a penalty.
Match the timing to changes
Review deployments, redirects, robots directives, canonicals, internal links and content edits around the date of the decline.
Improve the weakest cause first
Fix indexation or rendering before rewriting copy. If competitors now satisfy intent better, strengthen usefulness, proof and page experience rather than changing keywords at random.
